James Kimmel, Jr. will be the PPA 2017 Annual Convention Keynote Speaker on Friday, June 16, 2017. He will be discussing the emerging opportunity for a profound, transformational shift in the role of psychologists as public health clinicians and leaders in preventing interpersonal violence by moving beyond criminal justice and gun control measures to “motive control.”
On Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 2pm, Mr. Kimmel will also be presenting a CE workshop entitled:
Yale Research: Beyond Gun Control to Motive Control
Workshop Summary: Gun violence requires a gun plus a desire (motive) to use it. The primary motive underlying violence is the desire to achieve justice. Brain scientists have discovered that the desire for justice (revenge) may be as powerful as the desire for narcotics. “The Nonjustice System,” a technique for controlling justice (revenge) cravings that is being studied at Yale Medical School, will be presented.
